a few days ago I took an IQ test on the internet, to which I got an IQ of 133 ( only seven points shy of genius)!
a few weeks ago I took an IQ test on the internet and got an IQ of 124 ( not so bad, can become a professor of psychology)
a few weeks ago I took an IQ test on the internet and got an IQ of 105 ( wow I am as average as I can ever be)!
a few months ago I took an IQ test and got an IQ score of 95 ( hmm.. perhaps a blue collar job is more to my calling than what I am doin now)!
so which one among this should I choose as my true score?? and what do these results mean anyway. OFcourse the discrepancy shows the invalidity of most of these internet IQ sites, though I must admit that some of the sites seem to be more valid than others.
but what do IQ test measure anyway?? It is agreed by many experts now that the connection between IQs and intelligence is not that straight forward. scientists have found it very difficult to define intelligence ( actually the 'working currency' of intelligence in some circles is that of a guy called Boring who said that intelligence is whatever mental tests measure) with such a sketchy definition, most intelligent discussions are quite unintelligent to say the least. a proposal was made and now most experts subscribe to it. that proposal was that for IQ tests to be considered scientific enough, it should be said that they measure mental ability rather than intelligence. This is becoz mental ability can be defined unlike intelligence.
Piece of advice- when you get an IQ of 133, it is scientifically incorrect to tell people that you are intelligent, rather what is says is that your mental ability is two standard deviations away from the mean on the positive side......
one would think that perhaps the misleading term IQ will then be revised..
